Going sailing in the northern latitudes in summer doesn't always guarantee good weather. But we remember the perfect summer of 2019 with plenty of sunshine, little wind, and visibility down to eight meters.
At the same time, this meant that sailors with electric motors like us constantly worried about not being able to go far enough – but thanks to FLINsails , that worry disappeared that summer. Sometimes we were able to motor for eight hours a day without our battery showing less than 50%. Even in the harbor, we had some advantages over those without FLINsails that year. The electricity in Marstal, which was supposed to come from the blue boxes, wasn't working. We still vividly remember how an irate sailor shouted at the harbor master next to our boat and then asked us if we had any electricity at all.
Then another man, who was watching the spectacle, pointed at our FLINsail and laughed: "Yes, I think THEY have electricity." So we were able to sit back and relax while the others didn't know how to power their devices.
Even the eight-hour return trip from Marstal to Kiel went smoothly for us despite the lack of wind. The electric motor hummed quietly as we enjoyed the sunshine. Thanks to the FLINsails , we were able to cover the 35 nautical miles at cruising speed without any problems. A thoroughly successful holiday without the so-called range anxiety.
